In 2001 Duke Thompson moved from Canada, where he was a tenured college professor of music to Maryland to found Maryland Conservatory of Music. Today the conservatory has over 20 faculty members, has two campuses and offers programs to children with learning disabilities (i.e. autism, Downs), children at risk at Boys and Girls Clubs of America, adults recovering from alcohol/drug dependency, and all residents in music studies with numerous performance opportunities.
Maryland Conservatory of Music is a charitable organization 501(c)(3) with the IRS. The conservatory is governed by a Board of Trustees. Duke Thompson serves as President of Maryland Conservatory of Music. He also teaches piano and the well-known weekly Musicianship classes. The website for Maryland Conservatory is www.musicismagic.com
